SP-202 Indented Bar Code Marker

Model SP202 is a dual-Pin, computer-controlled marking system for indenting PosiCode bar codes and corresponding alphanumeric characters.

The SP-202 permanently marks a wide variety of materials including metal, wood plastics, carbon and composites. Flat, convex and concave surfaces can be marked. The SP-202 consists of a computer control center with data input terminal, dor-matrix marking head and two DC linear actuators which provide X and Y motion. The marking head has a bar code pin that ends in an elongated point and an alphanumeric pin that terminates in a point for imprinting a dot. Pins are driven into the marking area and produce clear, distortion free marks.
Indented bar codes produced by the SP-202 are read by a Mecco Bumpy Bar CodeTM reader. The reader, equipped with a laser scanner, reads both the depth and the contrast of the mark. By comparing the depth of the recessed bars and the surface, the scanner is able to discern a bar from a surface space. This dual method of bar code character recognition is extremely reliable and accurate. A check-sum located at the end of the bar code message double checks the reading. If the check-sum doesn't equal the total of the preceding numbers, the bar code will not read.
